WEST WARWICK, RI (WPRI) - A nine year old cancer survivor was honored Sunday by the Rhode Island Pink Heals.
For the past year, Jenna Jacques of Providence has been battling a malignant brain tumor that spread throughout her brain and spine. With six months of treatment left, her mother says she has been cancer free since August.
?It was just a breath of relief,? mother Heather Jacques said. ?We could actually breathe at that point.?
In honor of Jenna?s battle, Pink Heals dedicated a donated brand new pink rescue truck in her name. The organization, made up of police officers and firefighters, supports women battling cancer. This is the first pink rescue in the Northeast to be named after a child with cancer.
?She?s very remarkable,? Pink Heals President Ted Dion said. ?She?s inspirational?hence the reason we wanted to name a truck after her."
One by one family, friends, and cancer survivors signed the truck Sunday, starting with Jenna herself.
Every dollar Pink Heals raises goes back into the community, helping women and their families with medical expenses.
