According to an On Numbers analysis, Ontario, The Dalles, LaGrande and Salem increased private-sector employment during the time period studied. Ontario led the way in private-sector employment gains in Oregon with a 5.63 percent increase.
Portland lost roughly 8,500 private-sector jobs between 2009 and 2010, a drop of 0.97 percent to 870,794, according to U.S. Census Bureau?
data. That ranked Portland No. 307 among the 938 urban markets analyzed. Of those, 729, or 78 percent, lost jobs. That's similar to the margin in yesterday's On Numbers report, which found the number of private-sector businesses declining in 70 percent of all markets.
